In this day and age of fast-moving news one of the ways to keep up to speed on developments is Twitter. By using keywords you can track what is being said "out there" about different topics. You do have to sift through the chaff to find out useful material, but occasionally you'll come across things right as they're breaking which could be important in a disaster situation. Above is the link to searching for "radiation" for those who are not familiar with Twitter but want to see if my suggestion might be useful for them.
