Even in places Finland (see above link) we're seeing a run on certain supplies as people take seriously the threat of radiation release from the events in Japan. As I'll discuss on tonight's episode I went out and about yesterday to see what the "lay of the land" was as far as peoples' response to Japan here on the Oregon coast and it was eye-opening. At one health food store that was all anyone was talking about (both customers and clerks), and they were recommending people get kelp supplements to deal with the radiation issues as not one place I went had "potassium iodide/iodate" in any form and many online vendors were running out.
Just another reminder about why "preparation" means "preparing in advance of a crisis" not when it is occurring or after it happens.
