I fear sometimes people develop such a distrust of all things government that they neglect to recognize some of the resources available from official channels.  While I might not consider the above link to be a comprehensive list it is a great place to start and to send people who are newbies to the Survival/Prepping/Disaster Readiness field especially due to the fact that it is officially sanctioned and thus less likely to be considered "tinfoil-hatty".
