Dem Governor calls for next suspension of 2012 elections

Beverly Perdue recommends suspending congressional elections for the next couple of years.“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, North Carolina."

I'm really hoping that somehow she just mispoke because this is one of the most concerning things I've ever heard a politician say.  We've had elections during every turbulent time in our history, including the Civil War and World Wars.  It this "meme" starts getting repeated by other members of her party I am very curious what the response will be.  One of the things we discuss on this podcast is different potential triggers for civil/social unrest.  This would seem to possibly qualify....

  3. It seems like it kind of blew up in her face, but if you read the initial accounts she sounds as though she was serious. Which makes you wonder, have there been actual discussions at higher levels about such an idea? If so, I agree with Leddy, that is scary.
